During Fall semester 2020 I participated in an opportunity presented to University Honors Program students. This opportunity was the Student Leader Round Table, and UHP students from a wide range of programs and majors participated. Each student was required to be holding a leadership position in some sort of UC organization or program. I decided to participate as an executive board member of GlobeMed, a UC organization I am very proud to be a part of. GlobeMed is a student-led organization that partners students with grassroots non-profit organizations across the world to improve the life outcomes of underserved populations. Our chapter at UC is partnered with Social Action for Children and Women (SAW), which provides community administered health education, shelter, and schooling to Burmese refugees. I currently serve as the External Co-Chair on GlobeMed's E-board, and my job is to educate the local community on issues surrounding public health. Participating in UHP Roundtable enabled me to brainstorm a lot of ideas with my peers, which I was able to take back to my leadership role, allowing me to become a better student leader. This was especially helpful as a result of COVID restraints preventing in-person meetings and forcing campus leaders to manage their roles virtually. My peers gave me a lot of wonderful ideas on how to strengthen morale, motivation, and engagement in GlobeMed.
