For my last official UHP experience is a fantastic pre-approved opportunity called the GrOW internship. GrOW stands for Grassroots Onsite Work intern. This internship is open to members of GlobeMed, an organization focused on health equity and equal partnerships with our partner organizations. UC's GlobeMed chapter is one of many, and our partner is located in Mae Sot, Thailand. Normally, this internship would take place in Thailand, however with COVID the internship has transitioned from "Grassroots Onsite Work Internship" to "Grassroots Online Work Internship". While not having the opportunity to meet our partner and do hands-on work in Thailand was disappointing, I have learned a lot from the transition to virtual work. The entire internship essentially had to be reorganized by the GrOW team into something we can do to continue building our partnership. Our team decided to set up meetings with our partner, teach English virtually, and break up into project teams. My team is working on a newsletter, and our goal is to create content so that our readers can learn about our partner, the conflicts going on in Thailand/Myanmar, how COVID has affected our partner, etc. Our first issue is shown below as a sample of my work from this experience. Enjoy!
