Hi, my name is Elizabeth Roebker and I will be graduating from the University of Cincinnati in just a month! I am from Northern Kentucky, right across the river, and I am the oldest of four children. I spent my last two years of high school at a boarding school in Bowling Green, Kentucky, called the Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science. I find it ironic that I am closer to home for college than I was for high school! Nevertheless, I would not change a thing about my high school experience. Through Gatton I was able to study abroad and perform collegiate level research as a high school student. I was also able to take all of my classes through Western Kentucky University and explore all of my academic interests. These classes along with my experiences at UC helped me in deciding what I wanted to major in at UC: Economics and Liberal Arts with minors in Chemistry and Psychology and certificates in Global Health Studies and Pre-Med.
This always gets said, but I cannot believe I am graduating. My college years really flew by. UHP has helped me a lot by facilitating ways for me to get involved and pursue my interests. For example, I got quite involved with RaMP to pursue my passion for science and research. I was able to work with people in the Clinical Psychology and Developmental Biology Departments at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Medical Center, one of the best children's hospitals in the country. In fact, this experience is why I decided to add a psychology minor. Furthermore, this research experience helped me to get a job at a biotechnology company in San Francisco last summer. This was probably the best experience of my college career. I also took an international business class as an honors experience to broaden my cultural knowledge. Part of this class was a study abroad trip to Montreal, but unfortunately we were not able to travel due to COVID-19. However, I was able to finish the class and learn a lot about cultural competency in the business world. All nine of my UHP experiences have shaped me into the well-rounded individual I am today. In terms of future plans, I will be spending the month of May in Europe traveling as a graduation present to myself. I am spending the remainder of my summer preparing for graduate school admissions, and in August I will be starting a full-time job at Medpace. Lastly, go Bearcats! |
